I first explored the Upper Creek trail in Pisgah National Forest back in 1984 after I pulled out a topo map of Chestnut Mountain, NC, and located a large tract of wilderness land that looked inviting. Setting out with two other backpackers, we parked along the lower reaches of Upper Creek and slowly made out way up-stream over a period of several days.
We found the Upper Creek trail(168A)and so began a journey that would captivate my small group of backpackers for the next 20-odd years: The Upper Creek gorge canyon and the Burnthouse Camps, including the Moss Rock and the Greentown trail area. Here I am gettng water during a not-so-recent Pisgah trip.
